ایالات متحده روز جمعه در دادگاه عالی لندن برای استرداد جولیان آسانژ بنیانگذار ویکی لیکس به ایالات متحده به اتهام جاسوسی برنده شد.
دادگاه استیناف بریتانیا پس از لغو حکم دادگاه بدوی مبنی بر اینکه سلامت روانی او برای مقاومت در برابر سیستم جزایی آمریکا بسیار شکننده است، در را برای استرداد آسانژ 50 ساله باز کرد.
یک قاضی دادگاه بدوی در ماه ژانویه درخواست آمریکا برای استرداد آسانژ را رد کرد و او را به انتشار اسناد نظامی مخفی از ویکی لیکس در یک دهه پیش متهم کرد و گفت که در صورت نگهداری در شرایط سخت زندان احتمالاً خودکشی خواهد کرد.
دولت آمریکا در شکایت خود مدعی شده است که آسانژ “هیچ سابقه بیماری روانی جدی و دائمی ندارد.”
مقامات آمریکایی به قضات بریتانیایی گفته‌اند که آسانژ می‌تواند هر حکمی را که در ایالات متحده دریافت می‌کند در زادگاهش استرالیا بگذراند – در صورتی که آنها با استرداد او موافقت کنند.
دادستان های ایالات متحده آسانژ را به 17 اتهام از جمله نقض قانون جاسوسی و توطئه برای هک کردن رایانه های دولتی متهم کرده اند.
وکلای آسانژ مدت‌هاست که استدلال می‌کنند که او به‌عنوان یک روزنامه‌نگار عمل می‌کند و به دلیل انتشار اسناد فاش‌شده در افشای جنایات جنگی آمریکا در عراق و افغانستان، حق دارد از آزادی بیان خود بر اساس متمم اول قانون اساسی دفاع کند.
این اتهامات تا 175 سال حبس دارد، اما وکلای آمریکایی می گویند “طولانی ترین مجازاتی که تاکنون برای این جرم صادر شده است 63 ماه است.”
آسانژ در حال حاضر در زندان فوق امنیتی بلمارش لندن نگهداری می شود.
او در آوریل 2019 دستگیر شد و پس از گرفتن پناهندگی سیاسی از سفارت اکوادور در لندن خارج شد.
احتمالاً وکلای او نسبت به آخرین تصمیم دادگاه عالی لندن تجدیدنظر خواهند کرد.
