Knox County Schools students will be able to get free breakfast and lunch regardless of school or income status, superintendent Bob Thomas announced Wednesday.
Thomas said the temporary program will begin Tuesday. It will end no later than Dec. 31, but could end sooner depending on federal funding. The free meals are possible because of a USDA program.
“We are very pleased that every student, at every school will be able to receive free breakfast and lunch starting on Sept. 8,” Thomas said during the school board’s work session.
Loudon County Schools and Blount County Schools also announced on Twitter they will participate in the USDA program.
